Review intended by engineering guru James Dyson, inventor of the cyclonic vacuum, the 12 amp Dyson DC07 upright is an inspired mix of power and structural smarts. At the center of the machine’s novelty is the Cyclone air path design, an eight section chamber that creates powerful, consistent suction. The conical chambers produce 100,000 g of centrifugal force, pushing dust and dirt out of the airflow into the vacuum’s 1 gallon collection cup. With no bag to clog, the vacuum’s 270 air watts of suction remain steady. The big, transparent collection cup is easy to check and empties tidily pop it off, hold it over a trash bin, and pull the trigger to release dirt without having to touch it. The DC07 also comes equipped with a multipart filtration system to enhance in general air quality in the home. The HEPA filter, measuring 412 square inches in surface area, traps microscopic particulates and allergens. Expertly built, the filter is intended to last the lifetime of the machine. A wet/dry shop vacuum is great, but they may be unwieldy, cumbersome and hard to haul around. DEWALT’s joint the cleanup power of a wet/dry with the convenience of a cordless vac and create this groundbreaking machine. It’s powered by the same heavy duty 18 volt battery that runs your drills and other cordless tools, so you know it’s got oomph, but it’s light and super portable, making it simple to clean up just about anywhere you’re short on space or electricity. We like the flexibility to use either the utility nozzle for floor spills and messes, but the 5 foot rubber hose comes in really useful for cabinet installers, who can set the unit on the countertop and clean out all the shavings and sawdust from new cupboards, on the top shelves, using the hose. It picks up very well on both wet and dry material, though the tank is just half a gallon and so fills up pretty fast. But to that end, the tank removes and empties so easily that it wasn’t an issue for us. The filter is a breeze to rinse clean, too. A downside? It’s deafening. But what shop vacuum isn’t?
